 The Mikado

Amateur Operatic Production

 The Dover Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society which was formed as a result of the successful performance of the comic opera ‘HMS Pinafore’, during the Cricket Week, will give their inaugurative performance on December 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th at the Royal Hippodrome, Snargate Street, when they will produce the ever popular Gilbert and Sullivan’s ‘Mikado’.  The booking opens at Messrs Golden and Winds, 5 Cannon Street, Dover.  Lord Brassey and his party; Sir W H Crundall, and many other well-known people hope to be present at the opening performance on Tuesday evening, the 5th December.  The Company are working hard at the rehearsals and the opera promises to be a very great success. 

There will be a matinee on Saturday the 9th December, at 2.30, when children under twelve will be admitted half price.  This does not apply to other performances. 

The orchestra will consist if members of the Royal Garrison Artillery String Band. 

Subscribers to the Dover operatic and Dramatic Society will receive a 3s ticket for each 5s ticket subscribed.  Mr F Hoare, Hon. Treasurer, Capital and Counties Bank, Dover, will be pleased to receive subscriptions. 

By Line – In an advertisement for this event in the same newspaper dated 1st December, ticket prices were published as follows: 

Boxes £2 2s & £1 11s 6d; Reserved seats, Dress Circle 5s, 4s, 3s; Orchestra Stalls 4s; Pit Stalls 2s; Unreserved Seat, Pit 1s, Gallery 6d.  Early doors 6d extras, Gallery 3d extra.
