Fundraising is all ready well underway to try and underwrite the ever increasing costs of our shows. The Burns Night evening held at DODS Mill on 26th January was a great success. There are loads more fun events in the pipeline so don't forget to keep checking back!

Prior to that, new year's eve! Always a good bash!

And coming up, Mayday celebrations!

The committee have been working their socks off behind the scenes to make this one come true!
This exciting show has only recently been released for performance by amateur society’s and this will be the first production of 'Witches of Eastwick' in South East Kent.

The story follows three bored, single housewives Alexa, Jane and Sukie, who, whilst spending an evening together, imagine what their ideal man would be like. Darryl Van Horne appears, a man of mystery with something of the devil about him, who, as well as seducing all three ladies also manages to upset Felicia, the town’s busybody and moral guardian. As Darryl’s influence spreads amongst the townspeople, events take a nasty turn, the three ladies spurn Darryl who turns his attention to Felicia’s young daughter Jennifer. Eventually Alexa Jane and Sukie decide things have gone too far, take matters into their own hands and Darryl disappears from the town, leaving them all to live happily ever after - or do they?!
After a really agonising choice and with a warm welcome to some new members, the cast list is as follows!

IT's GOING TO BE GREAT!
ST GEORGE'S DAY FUNDRAISER!
We had another fabulous event at DODS Mill in April to raise money to help offset the costs of production! Thanks to Kevin and all the committee!

PAINT-INS!
Thanks to all members who turned out to the paint-in on Sunday 15th April - so much hard work goes on behind the scenes to make the set a stunning backdrop for each production!

What a success this production was! The cast, crew and audience all enjoyed it immensly and it became more that just a show to all involved.
And the hero of the hour - commander in chief - General Brodie!

The
operatic section finished their production of Guys and Dolls in May 05 (was it
really 2 years ago?). It was a Yarrow led production with brothers Mark and Stephen
playing Sky and Nathan. Judith Smith played the prim and proper (until she gets
a drink down her!) ‘Mission Doll’ Sarah Brown, (following great portrayals
of Lady Thiang in ‘The King & I’ and the formidable Maria, Duchess
of Dene in ‘Me & My Girl’). Mike Scurfield took the part of the
likeable ‘Nicely
Nicely’
Benny Southstreet. Laura Bodell put up with Nathan as the poor long suffering
Adelaide.
The
Operatic Section was very lucky to have Margaret Barker as director this year.

And a very warm welcome.....
....to Peter Futcher! Our musical director is a newcomer to DODS and is most welcome! And he is re-joining us for Oh! What a Lovely War!
Peter
Futcher was born in 1976 and grew up in Whitfield. After attending Dover Grammar
School for
Boys and following ten years as a Chorister at St Mary's Church under Adrian
Boynton and Steve Yarrow,
he was awarded a Choral Scholarship to Royal Holloway, University of London
in 1994. In addition to his work as a member of the Chapel Choir, Peter conducted
and musically directed many groups including the Savoy Opera Society, Choral
Society, Chamber Choir, Musical Theatre Society, Chamber Orchestra and Sinfonia.
In 1996 Peter was awarded a Choral Scholarship to St Martin in the Fields, Trafalgar
Square and during this year he was also Musical Director for Stephen Sondheim's
show Company to great acclaim in the Runnymede Festival. Peter also formed The
Academic Scholars, a professional Chamber Choir with whom he has made broadcasts,
recordings and festival appearances. After graduation Peter spent a year at
the University of Surrey studying conducting and composition and followed this
with teacher training at Christ Church, Canterbury. Following five years as
Director of Music of schools in Oxfordshire and North Wales, he returned to
Kent last year as Housemaster of the Choir House at Canterbury Cathedral, where
he is also a Deputy Lay-Clerk. Peter is married to Catherine, a professional
singer with experience on Broadway and the West End, and they have two young
sons, James and Oliver. Peter's interests include composition, cookery and skiing
(though not necessarily at the same time!).
More info on Peter to follow shortly!

Once a member, very often always a member (of DODS that is!). This is how a few of the members of this year's cast looked in 1988!

From prize-fighting chorus member in 1988 to leading man in 2005! Can it really be Mark?!

Sky in 1988, Steve (left) plays Nathan in 2005, and David moves from Nathan to Harry The Horse!

George liked the part of Arvide so much in 1988 he has decided to repeat the performance this year!

Not sure janet will be playing General Cartright in quite the same way!!!
Judith Smith is a very well known member of DODS on and off stage. She is also the society's Gilbert and Sullivan expert. Her most recent performance was Lady Thiang in The King & I.
Ann Wadey is a life member of the society, and again, has worked with every section. She choreographs almost everything that happens on stage for every show and is heavily musically involved with all rehearsals. She has also acted as MD on a number of occasions. She is currently the saviour of the section as she has stepped in at the last minute to breach the gap caused when we were let down by our rehearsal pianist at the last minute!
More recently, Mark Yarrow has joined the committee and has taken on the role of chairman. He is following in his brother's footsteps and becoming a very sought after Baritone and actor in the Drama section.
