Who Are DODS?

Dover Operatic and Dramatic Society are an amateur theatre company in Dover, Kent.

We have been in existence since 1911 providing entertainment for the people of Dover and the surrounding area.

DODS is a Registered Charity with Limited Company status. Members of the Board are voted for by the members and patrons of the Society and carry on the day to day running of the Society. DODS is a member of NODA (National Operatic and Dramatic Society).

We have four very busy sections all putting on a major show every year! Our Operatic Section performs a major musical every spring, the drama section produces a play during the summer, our youth section Next Generation (for 8-25 year olds) performs in the Autumn, and our Pantomime Section can guarantee laughs all round in the winter.

Our headquarters are in Temple Ewell, a village just outside of Dover, in an old mill the society owns. As there is always at least one show in production, scenery to be constructed and various committee meetings to be held, this is a hive of activity!

As well as our acting and stage crew full adult and junior members, we also have a base of loyal patrons who support the society in the audience! We are lucky to enjoy the support of several local sponsors who are willing to help us meet the ever rising costs of production.

Members also enjoy a very active social schedule! In the last year we have had cricket matches, a dinner dance, St George's Day dinner, Burns' Night celebration, cabaret evening and a whole host of other events. A cozy area on the top floor of the Mill we use as our headquarters has a fully fitted kitchen, comfortable chairs and tables, and a great atmosphere.

We always welcome new members - if you are interested in joining DODS, then please have a look at the membership page. A more detailed history of the Society can be found on our history page. If you require directions to either our Headquarters or our two main venues, then the find us page can help with links to detailed maps. Our contact page has email links to every section of the society, as well as our president and webmaster.

We LOVE having visitors! So if you are not sure yet, why not get in touch and come along to a rehearsal?

Thanks for visiting our site and come back soon!
